BSI are leading a programme of work to better understand current product environmental categories being used to inform the R&D stages of new product design. 

This work is looking at how this impacts life cycle assessment (LCA) calculations, and how this carries through to the procurement of HealthTech.

Working with industry, supply chain and the regulators, the intention is to co-define and align on how to measure the carbon impact of products. The aim is to reach a consensus, through standards development, in advance of the 2028 NHS roadmap objective of product-level carbon footprint reporting.
